Do you think its a contact issue that a new cartridge will fix? It took me 1h30 of phone conversation but I beleive it was worth it. Unfortunately if you try and buy some recycled cartridges off ebay the Printers detect the recycled\refilled cartridges as a previously depleted HP cartridge that may not be genuine and the units suddenly turn on you. It's great to have them, as they spare me many hours with the unfailingly polite but powerless HP tech support staff! Source
So thanks to everyone in this forum for posting their problem - amazing to me that this many people have had the problem, have taken the time to report it, and have had such a myriad of different results. If cleaning the cartridge and printer contacts does not resolve the issue thencheck the spring as shown in this page. It kept telling me to check the color cartridge. Avoid touching the nozzles.
I asked if they were 1/3 the cost....*The color missing had nothing to do with the printer - blotting the bad cartridge on a damp tissue gave only two of the three colors that would normally be present. Solved! Still no change.I went and bought both a new Color Cartridge (#97) and a new Black Cartridge (#96).Installed the new Color Cartridge.Still no change.Tried changing the Black Cartridge as well.

My 7310 has been doing the same thing and I have been trying to find the part to replace it. I'm wondering what the truth is on when the replacement was extended to as you mentioned after 12/31/09? HP replaced my 7310 with a 7410 (which was great until I had to change the black cartridge on it). If the spring is dislodged but has not punctured the flex circuit in the back of the carriage you may be able to fix this by using epoxy to fix the spring back in its proper position (see the spring on the black side to see how it shoudl go). have a peek here Did you ever find out? - lcaplan1 0 rstark: Speaking only for my case, I purchased a 7310 with the implied representation from HP that the machine would perform and perform well for a reasonable amount of time.

Clean cotton swabs or any soft, lint-free material that will not stick to the cartridges (coffee filters work well). All smiles & high fives for all the executives in the board meetings for what a trick they played on all us stupid consumers until ---- OH CRUD --- half the customers got so ticked off they bought another brand printer & the other half started posting the same problems on this forum & HP could see a law suit comming & so they had to start eating crow. I found someone else online with a different problem on a different HP printer, who used a very similar repair procedure as listed here, but with one extra step. Best guess (purely on conjecture) is there is a check in the firmware/drivers for if the cartridges has been previously installed, previously depleted, max install count, and expiration date validation. They offered me a L7680 for $179.00, not much different than online prices. HP tried to make this a "warranty" issue but warranty has nothing to do with it since HP failed to disclose this information when the machine was purchased.
