The software now doesn't see the drive at all, even though windows does, on and off. In Ubuntu, its detected as Unknown 2TB. We use data about you for a number of purposes explained in the links below. It generally isn't advisable to do this, as anything but a measure of last resort, but you might have to repartition the drive.

If I tried to access it, or even if I didn't after a couple of minutes, my VIA RAID tool would pop up and tell me that the disk has failed (I have an Abit AV8). I'm pretty sure I can RMA it in Newegg without a problem, but I really would like to salvage that data. That probably turned the problem into a mechanical one as well, and the data recovery company said the platters became scraped. Scan fails because of I/O device error 1117. This is why a lot of the file recovery programs state that recoveries should be done fully, and that no new data is written on.
