This only occurs when the firmware revision in the IO module is different than the firmware in the Jace. So, it can happen immediately after a Jace upgrade, or when the IO module is first connected to a Jace of a different revision (not equal to what is in the IO module.) This is the equivalent to a BIOS upgrade. If power is removed during this time, it does damage to the code in the IO module (bricks it) and that can only be recovered via JTAG at the factory.Because of the danger, the IO module comes with a warning label about this possibility. It sounds like this is what happened based on your description.Recommissioning the Jace with the same code it already has will not cause the IO to be flashed again. It will only attempt an IO upgrade if it sees the IO module is at a different revision than what the Jace is calling for. Changing the Jace code level (say installing a clean dist) will cause the IO to be reflashed though (if it's connected at the time) so be careful with that.If you plan to clean dist the Jace, you can save yourself a lot of time and possible problems by first disconnecting all IO modules from the Jace, then install the clean dist, then install the desired release, then reconnect the IO. This method avoids the Jace having to downgrade all the IO to match the clean dist, and upgrade them all back again to match the release. While the IO flashing process is reliable, many times it can take an additional 3-4 minutes with a full rack of IO modules connected and this might tempt an impatient installer to cycle power because the Jace doesn't respond to Workbench connection attempts while it is busy flashing IO. There is also no warning message given while it's taking place (except for an odd Jace heartbeat flash pattern.) On top of that, it could be taking what seems like forever where it normally responds to workbench after an upgrade quickly. So, I think this is how this comes about.September 11, 2012 · Like0 · Dislike0 You need to sign in to do that. What could be causing this to happen???
