I'm using the DVD's that where made when I got the computer.I can open the HP recovery system and get about 36% in, before i get the message:"error 1005"I have tried several options that i could find on google like:cleaning the disc's, setting the BIOS to default, checking the disc's are DVD+R.Someone suggested that Wireless has to be turned on when using the recovery. Yet, I am very interested in knowing the solution or rather the explanation to error 1005. HP sent me an e-mail survey and I gave them very low ratings based on my FRUSTRATING experience witrh their e-mail tech support. The second, third and fourth times it got to second disc, finished reformatting and then stopped at 1 - 2% of reinstalling software.Any other suggestions? If this is in the form of 2 x 512Mb modules, remove One of these modules - if you have just a 1Gb module, place it in the other available slot.

The DVDs claimed to have been made without error and the discs are clean and scratch free. Please Help Me Guys. Those Windows Updates which can cause OS crashes are only those concerning drivers, right? I have struggled with the same issue to no avail. I do not use the automatic backup setting at all.Murphy's law certainly applies in this case. First Time Here?

The discs I made and tried orginally were Sony DVD+R discs.

Hp recovery disc tend to fail all the time. The recovery disks I am running were the one's that were created when I bought the machine three years ago. Tap away at f10 as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu. Microsoft "WHQL" drivers from the update site have definitely been major contributors to OS crashes and lockups that I have resolved.
