But now after putting it back together it will not run off of the network. I have checked everything what I have seen on all forums, manual, etc.
My 4550 was purchased in 2001 and it still works great today. If you can fix it yourself you are able to afford to keep it. Cleaned & lubed 'em,put it back together, runs (and sounds) great. I tried the trouble-shooting section for this model on the HP site but the 54.2 isn't even listed (although it is for the 4500 and 4550 series, which is pretty useless) I hope someone can help - thanks in advance Adrian [s/n removed for privacy] Solved! the 54.2 Error is tellin' ya' its "TIRED".Good Luck and REPLACE IT!!

I also cleaned and blew air through most of the inside area and also removed, cleaned, and reinstalled the toner cartridges...wound up still getting the 54.2 error on restart. Anyone know what I might need to replace now? If you make a black copy after this to check the toner the device went into failure in 54.2 and wants to be restarted. Several phone calls.

Wait for the printer to prompt you for installation of the cartridges9. Pull it out at the bottom, you might have to lift up on the top panel to get the top part out. I follow the color to replace the toner. The toner cartridges that are placed incorrectly would display the error message along with the information regarding the wrong rotation of the carousel component. Call Toll Free 1-855-744-9617 I agree to Terms & Conditions. The device was found and installed but when trying to transfer the wireless settings the device lost somehow it's connection (tried several times, also through drivers from HP site) .
