I think you misread what I gave you I actually did not say to print as image at all.

On the internet, I found an article at the following URL: TidBITS Problem Solving: OpenType PostScript Fonts Troublesome in 10.6.7. As it turned out, 'Preview' prints all of my scanned PDF's without issue and darker and clearer than the Adobe print outs when using "print as image". After doing much searching & reading, and joining this forum, I checked the OSX version I'm using, which turns out to be 10.6. 8. thanks for any help.
