I don't think I can attach them to this posting.D.C. The display says "Scanner failure, Turn power off and back on again." I tried resetting the device in every way, on different plugs, even 20 amp outlets. The entire scanner assembly needs to be replaced. Another repair to look forward to whenever that happens!
I contacted HP, they never got back to me. Try that simple task first to see if it fixes the error code problem. REBOOT the computer and windows will find the scanner. In the hinge area there is two black pull latches.

Hp Officejet d145 6. I actually found two sources. Once you have the tray off, you will finally have access to the screw at the front of the scanner glass.Gotta love it! I ran several scans and copies to see if it worked.

Gave it a good cleaning on both sides of the scanner glass, along with cleaning all the mirrors, which is the biggest challenge in making sure they clean up good.Had intermittent problems, but after going back to the mirrors and making sure they were all clean (I missed a couple), it seems to be working fine.I would say these mirrors are a huge flaw in the engineering of this scanner. HP help desk sent me a link for downloading Director but I get the same error "Your version of windows is not supported) and prevents me from installing it. send the pictures to help me dissemble the flat bed. Put it all together and it appears to have no problems but I will wait and see. In many instances, a HP Officejet D145 Scanner Failure error code could have multiple HP Officejet D145 Scanner Failure parameters.
I contacted HP, they never got back to me. There are three screws visible, I take them out, but that does not release the glass section. Problem is no parts are available unless you salvage one. Bug in HP OfficeJet d145 in Vista RTM 10.
