There have been many meathods described for this, but the easiest is to take off the small glass on the left, and pull the belt to bring the scanner to the far left. Used Windex to clean the main glass (wasn't all that dirty), and used qtips and dilute alcohol to clean scanner mirror. What I mean is, the lights flash on, really fast, just ONCE and then off.

The voltage will be marked on it. I've tried power cycling it a few times, and now either the scanner head won't even start to move and I get an error message after attempted warmup, or the scanner head tries to move but fails to move more than a bit and then the error message appears.I've only done the "minor reset" procedure and haven't tried to download updated drivers recently (I had all the functionality I needed on the scanning/copying side via the HP software until the scanner failed).
