There was another page that had you disassembling the entire scanner operation into hundreds of pieces and then tells you clean the mirrors at your own risk. Did that, now the display advises scanner bulb is warming up and has stayed on that message for 4 hours.

And issue is fixed.

You have a bad scanner ... Had a LJ3380 with the exact same issue. There's no way I could have ever cleaned it with the simple method. Thank you for posting this verrry simple solution.

Now just take a needlenose pliers and move the belt by the back and the scanner will move a little each time. A few hard rub and the film should be gone.Just as what you said. It would cost more to repair it than buying a new printer.
